Apart from the Martin House Complex, the Parkside Neighborhood has its own national significance as an enduring Olmsted success. 

What did Western New Yorkers do for summer fun in the late 1880s? Where did they go? To the shore! The region offered a plethora of pleasure parks. Their history is as varied as the amusements they offered.

Edwin G. Weinheimer was the last and the longest tenured Delaware Park superintendent. He retired in 1963 after serving thirty years in the same post. He and his wife, Della Bowes, raised their four children in the stone Arts and Crafts residence at 1263 Elmwood, located between the Art Gallery and Penhurst Park.
