By the mid-1800s, shipping businesses were looking for additional access points to the Buffalo Harbor. Once completed, the City Ship Canal was immediately successful.
Now that the inner harbor is once again receiving attention, Sue Eck looks back at the harbor in the 1920s.
At the turn of the 20th century, the foot of Main Street in Buffalo saw numerous ships travel through the harbor.
Around 1915, automobile manufacturers had ceased advertising their vehicles as reliable transportation and had switched to selling the romance and adventure of driving oneself wherever one's heart might desire.
